The physiotherapy team at Spot for Kids have expertise in a wide variety of conditions and concerns in children aged 0-18 years. The physiotherapist will work with you and your child to determine your main concerns and needs and develop a treatment plan. This may include a variety of any number of treatment strategies, which aim to improve your child’s outcomes and enhance their quality of life. Examples of these are:
- Education/advice
- Strategies to relieve pain
- Stretching and strengthening programs
- Land and water based programs
- Provision of aids or equipment
- Assessment for diagnosis
- Prevention of long term issues
Issues or conditions, which may benefit from a review by one of our Physiotherapists include:
- Conditions of the nervous system
- Acquired brain injuries (not present from birth)
- Cerebral palsy
- Stroke
- Epilepsy
- Obstetric brachial nerve plexus injuries
- Down’s Syndrome
- Genetic conditions such as SMA
- Neuro-developmental screening and assessment
- Developmental concerns
- Delayed milestones (such as rolling, sitting, crawling, walking)
- Low tone (ie floppiness, also called hypotonia)
- High tone (ie stiffness, also called hypertonia)
- Poor balance, frequent tripping or clumsiness
- Coordination issues (such as poor ball skills)
- Toe walking
- Bone, joint or muscles issues
- Torticollis (neck muscle tightness) and head direction tendencies
- Flattened or misshapen head in infants
- Positional talipes (ie foot being squashed while baby is in-utero)
- Assessment of infant hips
- Scoliosis and curvatures of the spine
- Concerns regarding hip, foot and ankle postures including in-toeing (formally called pigeon toed), flat feet etc
- Sporting injuries including sprains and strains
- Joint, leg and back pain, weakness, tightness
- Other including
- Fitness and endurance issues
- Education regarding posture
- Chronic fatigue and chronic headache management
- Respiratory (breathing) issues such as chronic chest infections and CF
- Provision of Post-intervention physiotherapy services
This is by no means a comprehensive list and if you are unsure as to whether physiotherapy would benefit your child, please contact our office and one of our team would be more than happy to chat with you. We accept referrals from GPs, maternal and child health centres, hospital and rehab centres and self-referral and see children in-rooms or in their own environments (including home, school or day-care)
